Get Out Thoughts

 Get Out is a 2017 horror film directed by Jordan Peele, which follows the protagonist, Chris Washington, who visits his white girlfriend's family estate only to uncover a disturbing truth. While Chris is his girlfriend's parents house he is hypnotized by the mother. Soon this lead to the discovery that his girlfriend is dating black men and using them to brainwash and put their consciousness in other people.

This film utilized a lot of Hitchcock's techniques as Peele has been a huge fan of his work. Similar to Hitchcock, the film is very suspenseful leaving the audience wondering what is going to happen next. I thought this film was very enjoyable and kept me constantly engage and curious, so I would definitely watch it again. My favorite scene is when Chris decides to go check his phone and as he walks up the stairs everyone else stops what they are doing to stare towards him. This scene is very creepy and made me realize that something was seriously off with everyone at the house. Considering Peele is famous for his comedy skits with Keegan Michael Key, it was interesting watching him take on a complete different genre. Overall, I really enjoyed the film and thought Peele did a great job within the horror film. I love horror movies, so I wasn't too surprised that I would like it, however, it was unique to any other horror movie I have watched before.

    I also mentioned in my post that themes of Hitchcock were used in this film too. I'll have to say, I wasn't expecting this high level of film creation from a Comedy guy I grew up watching. Although I do think his comedic parts in the film were amazing. Do you think the movie would've been better if it had more jumpscares? I wasn't necessarily frightened either by this film.

Short Film Thoughts

This past week, we had to create a short film to show the class. We were able to chose any genre that we wanted and the filming process was very open to our imagination. My group and I decided to do a Western short film since it wouldn't be too hard. No one had any prior acting or filming knowledge, so we wanted to go with something simple that is also effective. With the film being fairly short, we thought that doing a standard western standoff would be entertaining. We looked at videos online of western standoffs, so that we could get a general understanding of what is needed to make successful film.  The filming process was very interesting as no one had prior knowledge of what to do. Doing a Western film was not the best idea since we weren't able to shoot in a desert area and lacked an accurate costume and props. Rear Window Thoughts

Rear Window is 1954 thriller, mystery film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, which focuses on the protagonist, L.B. Jefferies, who spends is time looking out his window at his neighbors. Jefferies is stuck in his apartment due to an injury taking place while taking photos. With the help of his love interest, Lisa Fremont, and his nurse, Stella, Jefferies solves the murder of his neighbor's wife.  This movie uses a unique camera perception of only seeing the story through the eyes of Jefferies or though his apartment, which provides a suspenseful viewing experience. I think that without this point of view, the movie would lack interesting storytelling. My favorite scene is this film is when Lisa breaks into Lars apartment to try and find evidence of the murder. I thought that this scene showed the growth in the relationship between Jefferies and Lisa because Lisa wanted to impress Jefferies by going out her way to help him.
